"Zoisite and Kunzite," he supplies, unsure of whether or not she remembered their names. Or if he had supplied them to her at all during their past life, as the flood of memories that hit him upon awakening weren't necessarily detailed.
"Either they've yet to awaken or they've been brainwashed."
Like before. Beryl had managed to warp the perceptions of his people, including his generals. Mamoru himself โ or Endymion, rather โ had been the one to strike them down during the battle on the moon.
"If they're brainwashed, we'll find a way to reverse it, especially now that I have the crystal."
She doesn't want him to have to kill them again, or any of them to. Maybe with their memories back sooner they can change things for the better. He deserves to have his soldiers as much as she deserves to have hers.
"I'm not sure it's wise to let the enemy know you have it," he tells her, his grip on her hand tightening for a moment. "She's looking for it, too. I remember her. Let'sโ Let's not draw her attention more than we already have until we have a solid plan. I won't put your life on the line just to get my retinue back."
They step into the arcade, still hand-in-hand, and Mamoru can't bring himself to say anything more as five pairs of eyes zero in on them. The girls she hangs around with that he knows now are Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter, her cat advisor Luna, and Motoki. The urge to bolt bubbles up in him, unused to this kind of scrutinizing attention in this lifetime.
Endymion would have ignored their stares. But as much as he feels like he's still the prince he once was, whole for the first time in his life, he's still Mamoru. And as Mamoru, he was introverted and kept to himself. Drawing attention was something he only did while masquerading as Tuxedo Kamen, not the high school student he was behind the mask.
With the hand not holding hers, he fidgets with the glasses on the bridge of his nose.
"She didn't get it last time, she won't this time. But there's no point in having it and not using it." And if she can save the lives of his men, keep them from pointlessly dying, then she's going to do so. Maybe it's not the wisest course of action but she doesn't care.
That line of argument drops for now as they walk in. The way everyone stares tells her everything.
Her friends don't remember. She swallows back how her heart sinks at the thought and instead pulls him forward with her. "This is Mamoru Chiba. Luna and I met him a while ago. He's..." Her long lost lover??? She blushes and realizes she's stalling a little too long.
It occurs to him that he doesn't know what their names are in this life, and it's a good thing that his princess takes the initiative in introducing him. There was about a 70% chance he would've told them his name was Endymion. He'd written it on an assignment earlier in the day, in neat, perfect Ancient Greek letters, and had erased it so swiftly he nearly tore a hole in the paper clearing it from the page.
The memories of his past life were still fresh, though not nearly as new to him as hers were to her, but he seemed to have more difficulty pulling the memories of now apart from those of then. Just when he thought he was getting a grip on that, she'd awakened and sent him back into (the best, the absolute best) tangle spiral of memories and something of a mild identity crisis.
He waves.
It's lame. It's the lamest move. He can lecture underclassmen and lead club meetings and organize plays as the captain of his school's varsity soccer team, but he can't just say a simple hello to the senshi that don't remember him. That have no clue who they used to be and that the instinct to flock to Usagi and protect her is more than just protecting the leader with the powerful finisher move.
"That's a Moto-Azabu uniform," Ami says after a moment.
"A what?" Makoto asks.
"It's an incredibly prestigious high school," Rei supplies.
Ami's nodding. "They have a waiting list to even attempt to pass the exam to get in. It's incredibly difficult to get in."
"So you're Usagi-chan's tutor," Mako wrongly assumes, looking proud of herself for having sussed out his relation to their leader before her gaze falls upon their still linked hands. "...a very inappropriate tutor."
"I'm not her tutor," Mamoru interjects. "I'mโ" He looks to Usagi for permission to tell them they're dating.
Luna hops off the top of the Sailor V game and bounds over to them. Pausing before them, she bows her head silent, a silent acknowledgment of who she knows them both now to be. It's the first time in over a millennia that the feline guardian has been in the presence of the Princess Serenity and her Terran lover, Prince Endymion.
"We should head down to the command center," she says once Motoki is out of earshot.
Rei sputters, alarmed that Luna would talk in front of him. Ami gasps and mutters something about how she didn't realize that trust meant trust. That he was in the know, that he knew Luna could speak and likely knew who they were too, thatโ
"Ah, you're Tuxedo Kamen," Mako deduces. "That makes sense."
Once down in the command center, Luna jumps upon the console so she can address them properly. "You are correct, Mamoru-san is Tuxedo Kamen. Just as you girls are the guardians of your own planets, Mamoru is the guardian of Earth."
Mako gives him a sly look. "Should we start calling you Sailor Earth now?"
Usagi is a traitorous girlfriend because she giggles a little at Sailor Earth. It also just feels good to laugh? After a flood of such serious and unhappy memories, it's good to remember she can still laugh at her friend's jokes. She's Serenity but she's still Usagi too.
And Sailor Moon.
She's kinda a lot of people now.
"Luna's right," She confirms once she's done giggling. "We have a lot to tell you."
Mamoru shakes his head as she giggles at the suggestion that he go by Sailor Earth now. While not wrong, it's also not entirely correct and the mess they're (yet again) swept up in with the Dark Kingdom is tangle enough as it is without making Beryl pay too close of attention to a fifth senshi in the form of Tuxedo Kamen rebranding himself Sailor Earth instead of Sailor Venus finally arriving on the scene.
(Where was Venus, anyway?)
"I awakened, too," he tells them, his hand once again tightening on Usagi's. "And I remember what happened before. With the Dark Kingdom. What happened on the Moon, why the Moon Kingdom fell. We have to stop them. It can't happen again."
"It won't. We know things sooner than we should, but that means we can make things different this time."
She squeezes his hand back. Yes, she's still determined to save what remains of his generals, if possible. He deserves that much. They're ahead of the curve, they might as well take advantage of it.
i haven't written a real tag in like 2 months, this is gonna be ROUGH
Mamoru meets the Martian senshi โ Rei, was it? โ and her oh so familiar mistrustful gaze. It's not that he fears the girls so much as he understands what they're capable of and the lengths that they will go to in order to protect their princess, even if they don't know who she is and they haven't awakened to the point of being able to utilize the full breadth of their abilities. Just like him when his memories of the distant past were locked away, they have instincts they can't fight and won't question, and he would rather not be on the receiving end of that knee-jerk defense.
It has him squeezing her hand again, drawing upon her strength as he gathers the courage to say what he needs to next. To utter it past the shame he feels for not having the wherewithal to realize sooner that Beryl had once again taken control of his own men.
"The shitennou," he starts, Luna's ears perking up as more of her own memories fall into place. He doesn't know how to go about this without telling the girls that he's the Prince of Earth and that Usagi is actually their long lost Moon Princess. "They're brainwashed. I might be able to undo it."
Usagi squeezes his hand back and speaks in definite terms, as if there's no room for argument or alternate ideas. They're going to do it. She has her heart set on it. They know earlier then they should but that means they can use that knowledge, and power, to their advantage.

"We're dating."
She looks apologetic at the looks her friends give her, especially Makoto, that she had hid something like this from them.
"It's new."
Actually, it's the opposite of that. How does she get them to remember? Is it even her right to?
"Mamo-chan," The nickname slips out easily, without thought. "This is Ami, Rei and Makoto. And you know Luna already."
